Practicum Information

IMPORTANT: Application intake is now closed. We are no longer accepting applications for practicum placements for the 2011/12 school year. Our next intake for practicum applications will begin in March 2012 for summer 2012 and 2012/13 school year placements.

About Practicum Placements

We are very fortunate to be able to accomodate  practicum students into our three program areas. For students interested in a placement with the  Counselling Services programs, please familiarize yourself with our three areas of  counselling focus: Family Counselling; Suicide Prevention; and Sexual Abuse Counselling.

We have found that most students prefer to work in the Family Counselling program as it offers the most range of issues, ages of clientele and is a short-term  counselling program.  The Suicide Prevention program (SPEAC) serves children and youth, is outreach based, and is a short-term counselling program. Students interested in a placement with  SPEAC  must have a vehicle. The Sexual Abuse  counselling (SAC) serves children and youth, and is both a short and long-term counselling program. Students interested in a placement with the SAC program, must be willing to make a longer term (minimum: 8 month- 1 year) commitment.

Note: Our ability to provide practicum students is contingent upon our capacity to provide clinical supervision,  office space and the overall time commitment.

At times, we may be unable to accomodate students.

How to Apply

Please apply only when we are accepting practicum placement applications. When applying, please submit a cover letter and resume outling your experience and goals, practicum needs (including start date, number of hours per week, etc.), and program preference.

Note: Due to the high number of applications that we receive each year, we may not be able to respond in person to each request/inquiry.  You will receive a letter from us confirming whether or not we will be setting an interview meeting.

Thank you for your understanding.
