Practicum Information
IMPORTANT: We are currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Please see the postings section of our web-site for further information.
About Practicum Placements
We are very fortunate to be able to accommodate practicum students into our three program areas when time and space allows. For students interested in a placement with the Counselling Services programs, please familiarize yourself with our three areas of counselling focus: Family Counselling; Suicide Prevention; and Sexual Abuse Counselling. We are currently posting for two placements, one in SPEAC and one in Family Counselling for the 2012-2013 school year.
We have found that most students prefer to work in the Family Counselling program as it offers the most range of issues, ages of clientele and is a short-term counselling program. The Suicide Prevention program (SPEAC) serves children and youth, is outreach based, and is a short-term counselling program. Students interested in a placement with SPEAC must have a vehicle.
Note: Our ability to provide practicum students is contingent upon our capacity to provide clinical supervision, office space and the overall time commitment.
At times, we may be unable to accomodate students.
How to Apply
Please apply only when we are accepting practicum placement applications. When applying, please submit a cover letter and resume outling your experience and goals, practicum needs (including start date, number of hours per week, etc.), and program preference.
Note: Due to the high number of applications that we receive each year, we may not be able to respond in person to each request/inquiry. You will receive a letter from us confirming whether or not we will be setting an interview meeting.
Thank you for your understanding.
